C@P Walking Competition
C@P and Heart and Stroke have teamed up to create a province wide C@P walking competition. Who ever logs the most steps wins! Winners are divided into three categories: the individual with the most steps, the C@P site with the most steps, and the region with the most steps. C@P site users can enter C@P sites and be loaned a pedometer; once the C@P site user receives the pedometer the C@P site attendant will walk them through how to log their steps online, how to properly wear one, and what all the information in the pedometer kit is for.
The competition begins on the 22nd of June 2009, and runs until the 28th of August 2009. After all the steps have been tallied; a winner will be chosen and be presented a prize. C@P site and Regional winners will be determined by average steps, for example: 100 walkers in Halifax region walk 1 000 000 steps that is an average of 10 000 steps per person, 50 walkers in Richmond region walk 600 00 steps that is an average of 12 000 steps per person. Richmond wins. The averages are used to keep smaller regions competitive with larger ones.

Contest Rules:
1. The contest is open to any person who visits a Nova Scotia C@P site, and who has either signed out a pedometer, purchased a pedometer from a C@P site, or has their own and registers at a C@P site.
2. C@P youth, C@P youth intern coordinators, and C@P regional coordinators are eligible to participate. C@P regional coordinators are excluded from participating in the individual category, but are included in the C@P site, and C@P region category.
3. There are three categories of competition. The three categories are Individual, C@P site, and C@P region. Prizes will be awarded to the category winner and second place finisher.
4. The individual who logs the most steps in all of Nova Scotia will win the Individual category. The winners for C@P site and C@P region are determined based on the average steps of the individuals in the group. For example: Halifax region has 100 walkers, and they log 1 000 000 steps; this is an average of 10 000 steps per person. Richmond region is considerably smaller and they have 30 walkers, and they log 330 000 steps; this is an average of 11 000 steps. Richmond wins based on a higher average steps per walker. This method evens the population disparity among the regions of Nova Scotia.
5. In order for a person, site, or region to claim their prize, the pedometer(s) must be returned or purchased. Individuals can use their own pedometer, but must register at a C@P site, and be documented on the sign-out sheet.
6. The steps are logged into walkaboutns.ca website which is maintained by the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The Heart and Stroke Foundation monitors logged steps and will flag large discrepancies. The C@P walking competition is a product of Heart and Strokes Walkabout initiative.
7. Competition begins June 22nd, 2009 at 12:00 am; competition closes August 28th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
