CAP Tracker

C@P Tracker is a per PC survey and web application which was developed for CAP to replace the use of paper stats. When a user sits down to use a computer in a CAP site which has CAP Tracker installed, they will be prompted to fill out a brief survey. The survey is brief and completely confidential. A user is asked for information such as gender, age range, and what the purpose of their visit to the CAP site is. Once the CAP Tracker survey is filled out and submitted, the information is sent to our server where it is added to a database and rendered into our web statistics. The server is located in the office of the Cap Society of Cape Breton County. If for any reason the computer does not have an internet connection, the stats will be stored locally and uploaded when the internet connection functions again. The first tests of this application for Nova Scotia were conduced by the Cap Society of Cape Breton County in the summer of 2005, and the Tracker application was made mandatory in 2007.

Pre Install Checklist (Important – Read Before Installing)

  1. Uninstall previous C@P Tracker application via add / remove programs area in the control panel (Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs).
  2. Reboot if prompted to do so.
  3. Check to ensure that the “Mindsweep.ca” folder is no longer in “C:\Program Files\”. To do this, open up “My Computer” then the C: drive and then the program files folder. TIP:
You can actually select multiple sites from multiple regions by holding down the Ctrl key as you click on each site. This can be useful when you wish to combine site stats from different regions.

How To - Use the Scheduler
It is possible to select time periods during which the C@P Usage Tracker will not be active. For example, this can be used to disable the C@P Usage Tracker on Library computers during school hours.
To disable the C@P Usage Tracker for a period of time, Click Start - All programs – C@P Usage Tracker – C@P Usage Tracker configuration and click on the corresponding time block in the grid as seen below.

When disabled, the time block colour will change to red. When enabled, the time block will appear green (as above). To disable a time range it is possible to click and drag over multiple blocks to disable more than one at a time.
All time periods before the noon hour appear in the top grid. Time periods after noon appear in the bottom grid. To get the exact time period for any time block, simply place your mouse over that block, and the time period will be written out below the time grid.
How To – Fix the Start Menu
If you’ve installed C@P Tracker and have noticed that the log off / shutdown feature is missing from your start menu this file should help. Unzip the file and run the .reg file. It will ask if you want to make changes to the registry. Allow it to do this and it should bring back your start menu functions. If your site uses deepfreeze it should be disabled while running this.

Quarterly Reports
Most regions have now made using C@P Tracker a prerequisite for receiving C@P sustainability funding. Our contract states: “C@P Site Operators must submit to the Province user statistics and other reports as required by the Province.” C@P tracker is our method of collecting user statistics.
In sites where an issue (technical issues, it is not supported on a MAC system, or sites have other equivalent mandatory data collection systems), some latitude should be given. If the site is unable to use C@P tracker, they must submit statistics through another software tool or by collecting numbers by hand. Forms to do this can be provided. This is to be done only with the approval of the Province/Region.
Every three months please submit any manual stats to:

Please add up your stats and send only one sheet which contains all of the stats for the quarter. Also make sure that the sheet clearly states the region and time period covered. If a quarterly report is due and you have manual stats for laptop users or Mac users etc. please add up the 3 months and submit the final result to the email address provided above. Your statistics will be added to the numbers taken from the C@P Tracker database.
